DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: A very light trade started to develop in the North
Thursday afternoon, but the bulk of business in that area was done on Friday.
With dressed deals ranging from $370 to $373, mostly $372 steady with the
prior week's weighted averages. Southern live sales were done late Friday
afternoon at mostly $235, also steady with the previous week's weighted
averages. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated
Purchase Summary reports the weekly accumulated weighted averages were
recorded as: KS $No Test($234.96); NE $370.00($372.04); TX $No Test
($235.35); IA $370.00 ($372.04); CO was not available due to confidentiality.
(the prior week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses). Due to the
late week trade these averages were not available or are not necessarily what
the weighted averages will be when summaries are released a little later this
morning.
The Friday afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date
trade volume totals as: KS 2,272; NE 15,121; TX 1,406; IA 4,352; and CO not
available due to confidentiality. Again, due to the late trade, especially in
the South, these totals are likely to be below what the summaries will
report. According to the Daily Livestock and Poultry Slaughter Report,
Friday's slaughter totaled 81,000 head, 5,000 less than the prior week, and
20,000 below a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at 13,000 head,
bringing the weekly total to 508,000 head, down 17,000 from the previous
week, and 50,000 under 2025. The weekly average for boxed beef cutouts and
boxed beef cuts: choice $401.63(+6.09), select $394.56(+6.16), with an
average choice/select spread of $7.07(-.07), and a total load count including
cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 405(+10), (Changes from the prior week are
listed in parentheses).
For the week ending March 14, 2026, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the
U.S. totaled 59,762, 106.25% of the previous week and 111.23% of the 4-week
average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It will likely be a typically quiet Monday morning,
with both buyers and sellers busy taking inventory and preparing for the week
ahead. Bids and asking prices have yet to be established, and significant
trade volume will probably be delayed until much later in the week. Beef
cutouts are expected to be mixed with light box movement.

data to be accurate but cannot guarantee its specific reliability or whether
it fairly represents the larger cash market.
