DTN COMMENTS: A light trade has been reported in parts of Nebraska at
$403 to $405(by a Regional), $3 to $5 lower than last week's weighted
averages, and some live deals have been marked at $255, $5 lower than the
prior weeks weighted averages. More bids are on the table in the rest of
cattle country, but they are being passed at this time, as asking prices
still remain rather elusive. Packer inquiry should continue to improve as
over the next several hours.
Today's slaughter totaled 110,000 head, 2,000 more than last week, but
11,000 less than a year ago. Cattle futures closed mixed on both live (up
50 to off 60) and feeder (up 107 to off 45) contracts. Beef cutouts are
expected to close lower with light to moderate box movement.
